Situated in the tiny seaside village of Llangrannog in Cardigan Bay. Decorated in a nautical style, it was trendy, without being try-hard. The patty and the bap were very fresh with a homemade feel. The patty was tasty, but lost marks for poor consistency, as it fell apart mid-consumption, and I had to resort to crude methods (knife and fork). Relish was caramelised onion, which despite being a nice accompaniment lacked sophistication. Chips were satisfactory with good portion size.

‘Cheese ‘n’ Bacon Burger’, The Royal Hotel, Ross-on-Wye, May 2010

‘Cheese ‘n’ Bacon Burger’

“100% British beef burger topped with your choice of Devon Cheddar or Shropshire Blue cheese & grilled bacon in a toasted, rustic flour bap with mayonnaise, lettuce, plum tomato & red onion. Served with chips, salad garnish & our spicy tomato relish on the side” £8.25

Accoutrements – 4/10
Ambience – 6/10

A classically decorated restaurant with an amazing view. The patty was obviously freshly-made, full of flavour, and succulent. The bap was equally as fresh and was soft but did not disintegrate during the eating process ;-). The relish was a unique concoction of the restaurant, was on the sweet side, which counterpointed the salty taste of the burger. The overall score is hampered by the microscopic portion of chips (literally about five!). Nice, although slightly dry. Setting was slightly pretentious, but rather than put me off, this encouraged me to dine there as I felt I was living the high life. Not your average burger bar!

‘Prego Steak Roll’, Nando's Exeter, September 2009

‘Prego Steak Roll’

“Beef steak marinated in garlic, basted in PERi-PERi and flame-grilled.” £7.50

Rating
Patty - 6/10
Bap – 5/10
Relish/Sauce – 7/10 (Lemon and Herb)
Accoutrements – 7/10 (Coleslaw and Fries)
Ambience – 7/10 (Free meal!)

Overall Score = 32/50

The restaurant was busy, but had a good atmosphere, and staff were friendly. The steak was a little dry, but very flavoursome, and the bap was too crusty for my liking. Nandos’ sauces are notoriously tasty, and their chips and coleslaw were of a good standard. The ambience gets a 7/10, because even though it was slightly noisy, I got my meal for free, because it was my birthday!
